Driven by Dual Engines - New Route and New Equipment, Nansha Phase III Improves Its Service Quality and Efficiency to Contribute to “Dual Cycles” (Picture)

On April 8, the maiden voyage of “Gold Star Line” Ship of ZIM Integrated Shipping Services from the Nansha Phase III Terminal marked the official start of the new China-East Africa Line CEA launched through cooperation among ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, ONE, and Hapag-Lloyd in the Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port. The number of shipping companies providing East Africa route services in Nansha Port area increased to 7. On the same day, The Port and the Shipping Companies held the maiden voyage ceremony at the terminal.

The CEA route is jointly operated by ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, ONE and Hapag-Lloyd by putting into 7 2500-3000TEU container ships. They call at Nansha Port every Tuesday. The order of the calling ports is as follows: Shanghai - Ningbo - Nansha - Singapore - Port of Klang (West) - Mombasa - Dar es Salaam - Port of Klang (West) -Singapore-Shanghai. Customers can enjoy the fast service of arriving in Mombasa in 17 days and arriving in Dar es Salaam in 19 days, and the transit time is a very competitive strength. The route will also provide inland transfer services via Mombasa to Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and other countries, promoting the interconnection between customers in the Pearl River Delta and more African countries along the “Belt and Road”.

The maiden voyage day of this route coincides with the trial operation of the 4 new 65t-73m remote-controlled semi-automatic STS cranes in the Nansha Phase III Project. With a larger operating range and advanced remote semi-automatic control technology, the new STS cranes are the largest quayside container cranes in the ports of the Bay Area, which have a certain surplus capacity for unloading the largest container liner in the world. The Nansha Phase III Project planned in advance, and completed the whole process from the commissioning of stand-alone equipment, special inspection work to the trial operation of the equipment within only 20 days for this batch of equipment, 10 days shorter than the original plan of 30 days, creating conditions for the first call at the port of the new route.

At present, the Nansha Phase III Project is accelerating the capacity construction of the terminal. The Phase I Project of the semi-automated storage yard has been put into use, and 40% of the Phase II Project - a 110,900 m2 storage yard has been completed. The supporting 11 remote-controlled semi-automatic rail-mounted container gantry cranes are expected to arrive at the port in July this year. After the 4 new STS cranes are put into operation, the existing 20 STS cranes will be increased to 24, and it is estimated that the handling capacity will be increased by 800,000 TEU for the frontline of the Nansha Phase III terminal every year.

It is learned that the container throughput of the Nansha Phase III in the first quarter increased by 28.3% compared to the same period last year, of which the foreign trade container throughput increased by 59.5% compared to the same period last year.
