Four Key Projects of Guangzhou Port “Make Grand Debut”, Contributing to Comprehensive Leap of Bay Area Gateway Hub at Energy Level (Picture)

On the morning of June 23, 6 fully loaded container trailers with red flowers pulled into the gate in an orderly manner, and then into the platform on the 6th floor of the warehouse through the circular driveway spiraling up. The first batch of goods on the trailers were loaded into the warehouse with forklifts, which marked the successful opening and trial operation of the North Area Warehouse of Guangzhou Nansha International Logistics Center with storage capacity of 252,000 tons. It also marked a substantive breakthrough in building the largest near-port warehousing and logistics distribution center in Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port. It will provide solid support for the high-quality development of the construction of National Logistics Hub like Guangzhou Port, and play a positive role in smoothing domestic and international double circulation and ensuring the smooth running of regional industry chain and supply chain.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou Port successively ushered in the trial production and delivery acceptance of key port projects on the eve of July 1: successful multisystem joint debugging in the first Automated Terminal Nansha Phase IV Project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and delivery acceptance of the No. 1 seagoing vessel berth, successful berthing of “Anji 26” Vessel (a ro-ro ship) in Near-sea Terminal Project, and successful initial berthing of “Zhongliang Dongnan” Vessel (a bulk cargo ship of grain) in Xinsha Port Area Phase II Project. All the four key port projects are key port projects at levels of the Ministry of Transport, Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City, with a total investment of RMB 14.5 billion, which form an integrated port logistics service system covering containers, grain, commodity vehicles, integrated warehousing and logistics and so on. There are Nansha Port Area Phase IV Project of Automated Terminal which interprets “high-end” technologies of Chinese smart port (an increase of annual container throughput: 4.9 million TEU), Xinsha Port Area Phase II Project which promotes the stable grain security in South China (an increase of annual grain throughput and annual container throughput: 5.6 million tons and 500,000 TEU respectively after completion), Nansha Logistics Park as a largest national near-port warehouse cluster that extends the port service chain (an increase of warehouse storage capacity: 252,000 tons) and Near-sea Terminal Project which enables the construction of the largest national auto hub island, upon the construction of which more than 2 million vehicles will drive through Guangzhou Port per year.

According to Li Yibo, Party Secretary and Chairman of Guangzhou Port Group, the completed key port projects subject to trial operation are featured with large scale, extensive fields and high-end technologies and make a breakthrough compared with the previous port projects in Guangzhou, which are generous gifts presented by Guangzhou Port Group for celebration of the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. After the projects develop their capability, Guangzhou Port will obtain qualitative leap in terms of grain, containers, commodity vehicles, integrated warehousing and logistics hub capacity. Guangzhou Port will fully play the role of major projects in supporting and leading high-quality development, promote the comprehensive upgrading of Guangzhou international shipping hub at energy level, ensure the stable and smooth supply of livelihood materials, industry chain and supply chain in South China, better respond to the national strategies such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development plan, and fully participate in international economic cooperation.

It’s learned that since this year, Guangzhou Port Group has spared no efforts to carry out various work concerning epidemic prevention and control and port production and operation, and carried out the work of “three guarantees”, including guaranteeing the stability of epidemic prevention and control, guaranteeing the unimpeded port logistics and guaranteeing the orderly traffic. Guangzhou Port Group gives full play to the advantages of Guangzhou Port in its comprehensive capacity and network of collection and distribution, strengthens communication and coordination with shipping liner companies, port units, competent industry authorities and customers, overcomes the epidemic impact and ensures the smooth operation of the port. Since this year, the cargo throughput and container throughput of Guangzhou Port Group have grown steadily, with an addition of 14 new container foreign trade routes. Up to now, there are 179 container routes in total, including 134 foreign trade routes. The function of Nansha Port Area as an international shipping hub has been further enhanced. Relying on the existing location, collecting and distributing and resource advantages of Guangzhou Port, the four key projects in operation will exert well-coordinated effect of common-frequency resonance, enhance the overall international competitiveness of the port, provide a new engine for comprehensively serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and building a world-class strong port, and comprehensively help build Guangzhou into a hub city, a central node city of domestic large circulation and a strategically linked city of domestic and international double circulation.
