Recently, Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd. and Hede Shipping jointly initiated the express route product from South China to the West Coast of the USA - the first point-to-point direct route from Nansha Port to the West Coast of the United States. The opening of this route will significantly shorten the shipping cycle from Nansha to the West Coast of the United States, effectively reduce the comprehensive logistics costs of the enterprises in the Bay Area, and build a “maritime highway” to the North American market for the thriving cross-border e-commerce and manufacturing industry.

Xie Xiaohui, Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference and Director of the Bureau of Commerce of Nansha District, Zhang Jiaguo, Director of Haigang Branch of the Municipal Port Authority, heads of relevant units such as Nansha Customs, Sun Bangcheng, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd., Li Wenyong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Hede Shipping, Chen Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Director and General Manager of Hede Shipping, as well as representatives from a large number of customers and merchants attended the event.

It is learned that the route is a direct express route from Nansha, Guangzhou to Los Angeles, the USA, and is expected to make its maiden voyage in July this year, providing core services of “14-day direct service” to core ports on the West Coast of the United States. “Relying on the superior geographical location, efficient collection and distribution network, and strong support from customs and other port units in Nansha Port Area, we will provide high-quality ship calling and berthing services to guarantee the delivery time of goods,” Sun Bangcheng introduced.

As a leading province in China’s cross-border e-commerce, Guangdong’s total import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce reached RMB 745.4 billion in 2024, accounting for over one-third of the country’s total. Relying on the mature “cross-border e-commerce + industrial belt” ecological chain and efficient port environment, the newly initiated express route product will further strengthen the connection between the Greater Bay Area and the global supply chain, providing strong logistics support for characteristic industrial belt enterprises (such as clothing and textiles, beauty and daily chemical products, bags and leather goods, jewelry, food and beverage, customized home furnishings, etc.) to expand into the North American market.

In recent years, Guangzhou Port has actively implemented the national “dual circulation” strategy and made every effort to build a modern port service system of “hub + corridor + network”. As the core engine of Guangzhou Port and a key hub for Sino-US trade in South China, Nansha Port Area provides solid support for the new route with its carrying capacity. In 2024, the container throughput of Nansha Port Area exceeded 20 million TEUs for the first time, with foreign trade container volume exceeding 10 million TEUs, which strongly confirms the deep integration of manufacturing in the Bay Area and global trade.

As an important practitioner of the domestic and international dual circulation development strategy, Hede Shipping is an innovative and breakthrough shipping logistics enterprise, and a benchmark for Chinese shipping companies to move from domestic trade to foreign trade and from near ocean to far ocean. The appointment of Nansha Port as the first port of the express route product from South China to the West Coast of the USA is a full recognition of the hub status of Nansha Port Area.

Guangzhou Port Group stated that under the guidance of relevant port departments, it will integrate multi-dimensional elements such as policy support, port operation, shipping agency services and international cooperation, continuously improve the level of customs clearance facilitation, provide efficient and professional port services, deepen logistics network layout and service innovation in cooperation with Hede Shipping and customers, and jointly create more competitive cross-border logistics products.
