Recently, a rail-sea train fully loaded with “Made in Hunan” auto parts arrived at Nansha Port South Station, marking the successful launch of the first “Zhuzhou, Hunan - Guangzhou Nansha Port” rail-sea train service operated by OOCL in the Year of the Snake.
The train service meets the growing demand for export logistics from the manufacturing sector in Central China. By adopting the “direct rail connection to port and seamless cargo transfer to vessel” model, it has established a strategic corridor linking Hunan Province and the broader central region with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Compared with the traditional river-sea and road transport approaches that require cargo transfer at ports before shipment, this service reduces transit time by up to 10 days and lowers logistics costs for customers by 50%. In addition, the rail-sea transport significantly reduces carbon emissions compared with traditional road transport, providing enterprises with a practical path to both cost reduction and green transformation.
Hunan is a key manufacturing hub in Central China. Leveraging the strategic location of Guangzhou Port as a comprehensive hub port in South China, Guangzhou Port Group and OOCL have actively sought cooperation opportunities to maximize synergies. By integrating the global shipping network of OOCL with the land-sea transport service offered by Guangzhou Port, both parties have significantly shortened transport time and reduced logistics costs for exports from Central China. As a landmark project marking the first departure in the Year of the Snake, the successful launch of this service is not only an important step in deepening cooperation between Guangzhou Port and OOCL and promoting the high-quality development of rail-sea transport, but also a crucial initiative to support China's new “dual circulation” development strategy through logistics innovation.
According to sources, Guangzhou Port and OOCL will continue to deepen their cooperation, further enhancing the integration of maritime shipping networks with inland intermodal networks. Both parties will continuously improve the construction of rail-sea corridors and enhance service quality and efficiency to provide customers with high-quality, efficient and environment-friendly logistics solutions.
