Peak durian season is in full swing, and durian lovers' hopes for "durian freedom" are growing by the day. The first seaborne shipment of fresh Cambodian durians recently arrived at Guangzhou's Nansha Port Area, opening a new maritime import channel for fresh Cambodian durians through Nansha. The new route further broadens the Greater Bay Area's sources of Southeast Asian fresh fruit and adds a new touch of sweetness to Chinese consumers' summer fruit platters.
In recent years, buoyed by the policy dividends of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), agricultural trade between China and Cambodia has deepened steadily, and exports of premium Cambodian fresh fruit to China are entering a new period of opportunity. With its prime location, industry-leading facilities, and end-to-end logistics support, Nansha Cold Chain is becoming an important gateway for Southeast Asian fresh produce entering the Chinese market.
Located at the geometric center of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and close to Southeast Asia, Nansha Cold Chain leverages the direct shipping routes out of Nansha Port to cut sea-transit time substantially and gain an early edge in moving fresh fruit from source to market. Once the cargo arrives, the port's integrated, closed-loop operations link berthing, shipside direct pickup, cold-storage warehousing, and rapid distribution seamlessly, with no need for re-transshipment. Combined with the region's well-developed transport network, these fresh durians can reach major wholesale markets such as Guangzhou's Jiangnan Fruit Wholesale Market in as little as two hours and arrive in major cities nationwide within 24 hours—truly bringing them to market at peak freshness.
Inside, the facility comes standard with an "H-shaped" temperature-controlled anteroom and fully enclosed work areas that shut out external temperature swings, keeping unloading, sorting, transfer, and inspection within a constant-temperature, closed loop. A facility-wide intelligent temperature-control system monitors temperature in real time around the clock and triggers automatic alerts for any anomaly. The loading and unloading docks are fully fitted with insulated dock shelters, hydraulic lift platforms, and high-definition cameras, enabling fully visualized, traceable management of inbound and outbound cargo, in-yard handling, and sample transfer. A dedicated on-site drayage service runs point-to-point within the port using yard trailers, protecting the durians' freshness every step of the way.
To address the perishability of fresh produce, Nansha Cold Chain has teamed up with port and customs authorities on a coordinated package of measures, rolling out facilitation steps such as advance declaration, shipside direct unloading, and expedited cold-chain inspection. The project team engaged early, working with the client to fine-tune contingency plans for each stage of import and smooth out post-arrival logistics and exception-handling procedures—sharply shortening overall clearance time and delivering a frictionless experience of "inspect on arrival, store once inspected."(Text & Picture | He Jiali)
