Recently, Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd. and China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement at the Port Center. Wu Chao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman and General Manager of Guangzhou Port Group, Su Yangzhou, General Manager of China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch, and Zheng Lingtang, General Manager of Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd., jointly witnessed the signing. Han Xuechao, Deputy General Manager of China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch, and Ma Jinqi, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd., signed the agreement on behalf of the two sides.
This cooperation addresses key pain points in industry development, drawing on the synergy between port operations and ship technical support. The two sides will jointly advance the green and smart upgrading of port and shipping infrastructure, build a "safe, green, smart and efficient" waterborne service brand for the Greater Bay Area, enhance Guangzhou Port's international shipping service capabilities, and inject new momentum into regional development.
Wu Chao noted that China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch has notable strengths in industry standard-setting, technical inspection, and related fields, giving the two sides a solid foundation and broad prospects for cooperation. He stated that Guangzhou Port is currently advancing its "Hub + Corridor + Network" strategy, transforming into a port-based, comprehensive logistics service provider, building a “single-core, multi-pillar” industrial system, and creating a globally positioned platform for aggregating and operating port-related resources. He expressed hope that the two sides would deepen collaboration going forward in areas such as building a river-sea intermodal transport system, advancing green shipping transformation, and researching standards for smart ports and intelligent vessels — drawing on their respective global service networks to provide integrated port and shipping technology and operational support for the Greater Bay Area's waterborne supply chain, and thereby help drive high-quality development of the regional economy.
Su Yangzhou noted that China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch is one of the first five branches established in China, and is responsible for Guangdong Province's "one province, one inspection" mandate. It holds core capabilities including full-chain inspection of ships and offshore facilities and the development of technical specifications, covering full-cycle technical services spanning port operations and ship retrofitting. Guangzhou Port, as the operator of the largest comprehensive hub port in South China, and China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch have highly aligned development directions. Taking this signing as a new starting point, the two sides will seize strategic opportunities, deepen resource sharing, drive down logistics costs and improve efficiency through pragmatic measures, and set a benchmark for industry cooperation.(Text | Liu Tongxi, Chen Jianhong Photo | Tan Shaowen)
