Guangzhou Port's Nansha International General Terminal Releases Over 12 Million Aquatic Juveniles in Stock Enhancement Program

On August 5, Guangzhou Port Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Nansha International General Terminal Co., Ltd. successfully held the 2026 "Comprehensive Green Transformation, Jointly Building a Beautiful Port" stock enhancement event at Shijiuchong Wharf in Nansha District.

The event was supervised by the Nansha District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and notarized throughout by the Nansha Notary Office. Over 100 representatives from regulatory agencies—including the Pearl River Basin and South China Sea Ecological Environment Supervision and Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Shenzhen Ocean Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Harbor Branch of the Guangzhou Port Authority, and the Nansha Branch of Guangzhou Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau—along with project construction partners, attended the release. A total of 4.5 million native aquatic juveniles across six species were released on-site: yellowfin seabream, black seabream, Chinese seabass, flathead grey mullet, greasyback shrimp, and undulating venus clam. This initiative helps restore the food web in the Pearl River Estuary and improve coastal water quality.

This release marks the third consecutive year of stock‑enhancement and release activities for the Guangzhou Port International General Terminal Project since 2024, with a total of 12.23 million aquatic juveniles of various species released over the three‑year period. The large-scale release of native aquatic juveniles into the sea continuously replenishes fishery resources in the Pearl River Estuary, optimizes the biological population structure of Inner Lingdingyang waters, enhances self‑restoration capacity of the marine ecosystem, and builds a solid blue ecological security barrier for the construction of a Green and Beautiful Nansha.

According to the project construction team, since the start of the project, the company has thoroughly implemented ‌Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization‌, strictly complied with all mandatory requirements in the environmental impact assessment approval, adhered to the principle of prioritizing ecology and pursuing green development, continuously promoted the application of clean energy, fully advanced the supporting construction of on‑shore power supply facilities in the port area, and regularly implemented soil and water conservation as well as marine pollution prevention and control during the construction period. In terms of ecological compensation, taking the annual stock enhancement and release as the core initiative, the company systematically promotes special ecological restoration work such as regular water environment monitoring, and establishes a closed-loop full-chain protection mechanism covering "construction - operation - restoration", fulfilling the primary responsibility of a state-owned enterprise in ecological and environmental protection with concrete actions.

Guangzhou Port Group‌ has always upheld the social responsibility of a state-owned enterprise, adhered to the simultaneous planning, implementation and delivery of outcomes for both project construction and ecological restoration, integrated ecological protection into the full life cycle management of project planning, construction and future operation, and advanced the construction of green ports with scientific and normalized ecological conservation measures.

Throughout the construction of key projects such as the Nansha International General Terminal, Guangzhou Port adheres to the coordinated progress of development and protection, continuously improves the green port construction system, and regularly carries out ecological restoration, energy conservation and carbon reduction initiatives. With concrete actions, the group strives to build this project into a benchmark demonstration project for major infrastructure projects in the ‌Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area‌ that features "improved project quality, optimized ecology and accelerated development", and builds a world-class green hub port area where humanity and nature coexist in harmony.(Text & Photo | Wang Donghao, Li Junyue)
