Successful Maiden Voyage of Dongfeng Motor's Guangzhou-South America Route and A Good Start of Foreign Trade Ro-Ro Export at Guangzhou Port (Photo)




Recently, Guangzhou Port held the maiden voyage of Dongfeng Motor's South American Route at Nansha Automobile Terminal. The first batch of 1,026 Forthing SUVs, MPVs and other models were shipped by NYK ro-ro ships to Chile, Peru and other countries, which opened the sea channel of Dongfeng Motor in Nansha, Guangzhou, driving Nansha's monthly ro-ro export to exceed 8,000 vehicles, and the Group exported nearly 14,000 vehicles in a single month, both of which reached record highs. Guangzhou Port ushered in a good start in foreign trade ro-ro export.

During the event, Nansha District Port Office signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with China Dongfeng Motor Industry Import and Export Co. Ltd., and relevant leaders of municipal, district and Nansha port organizations attended the event.


China Dongfeng Motor Industry Import and Export Co. Ltd. is a professional foreign trade company of Dongfeng Motor Group. It is the first foreign trade company approved by the state in China’s automobile industry, and has sold passenger vehicles such as Aeolus, Forthing and Fengdu and Dongfeng commercial vehicles to more than 100 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America. Guangzhou Port is the main carrier for Guangzhou to build an international automobile trade center. At present, five professional ro-ro berths of over 10,000 tons have been completed and put into operation. After two 70,000 ton ro-ro berths of Jinyang terminal are completed and put into operation in 2022, Nansha Automobile Port will form the largest ro-ro terminal cluster in China with seven special berths for ro-ro vehicles of over 10,000 tons, 1.8 kilometers of terminal coastline and nearly 1.6 million square meters of commercial vehicle yard.


In order to ensure the smooth completion of this export, Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau, Guangzhou Port Authority, Nansha District, Customs, Maritime Affairs, Frontier Inspection, Pilot Station and other organizations attached great importance to it, worked with terminals and agents to work out a single ship support scheme, kept a close eye on every link of ship and cargo arriving at port, and gave guidance and strong support in epidemic prevention and control, ship planning, berth arrangement, personnel organization, yard maintenance, cargo concentration in port and dispatching, export declaration, inspection and quarantine, etc., so as to escort the ro-ro export business of Dongfeng Motor. With the joint efforts of all organizations, it took only 5 days from the confirmation of export plan to the smooth loading of vehicles, and Guangzhou Port ran out of the Year of the Tiger acceleration of ro-ro export.


In 2021, Guangzhou Port fully judged the market situation, seized the export opportunities of domestic OEMs with strong support from all walks of life. On the basis of the original domestic trade and parallel import business, Nansha Automobile Port continued to expand new customers, enrich the supply structure, add Geely, Chang'an, BYD, GAC MOTOR and other foreign trade export brands, expand the rail-sea combined transport business of the whole vehicle. And it successively introduced shipping companies such as NYK, MOL and Anji Shipping to open six foreign trade ro-ro routes in Nansha, including the Middle East, Europe, South America, Southeast Asia and Central and North America, driving the Group to complete the ro-ro export of 105,000 vehicles throughout the year, a year-on-year increase of 162.5%. In the whole year, Nansha Automobile Port completed foreign trade export of 25,000 vehicles, a year-on-year growth of  2,067.8%, and the ro-ro export business achieved normal operation.
