Huang Bo Attends the Opening Ceremony of Chancay Port (Picture)

On the evening of November 14, local time in Peru, the heads of China and Peru announced the official opening of Chancay Port!

Located 80 kilometers north of Lima, the capital of Peru, Chancay Port is a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) jointly developed by China and Peru. This milestone signifies the successful localization and flourishing of the BRI in Peru, marking the birth of a new Asia-Latin America land-sea corridor in the new era.

Huang Bo, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of Guanhzhou Port Group, attended the opening ceremony of Chancay Port in Peru. Recently, Guangzhou Port's marketing team has been conducting overseas promotional activities in Latin America, visiting key clients to explore the potential for opening more shipping routes between China and Latin America.

In recent years, Guangzhou Port Group has effectively implemented the strategy of leveraging corridors to drive logistics, logistics to stimulate trade, and trade to foster industries, actively advancing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The Group prioritizes "hard connectivity" through infrastructure development and "soft connectivity" through rules and standards, striving to build its ports into global gateway hubs with facility integration and smooth trade flows. Looking to the future, Guangzhou Port will continue to deepen trade cooperation with Latin America, closely collaborating with major port and shipping enterprises to provide efficient and convenient port logistics services for industrial hubs in both China and Latin America. This initiative aims to inject fresh momentum into the economic growth of the Greater Bay Area and even the whole South China region.

What Has Latin American Trade Brought Us?

Food is fundamental to life, and the exchange of food has always been one of the central pillars of global trade. Chilean cherries, Brazilian beef and lamb, Peruvian blueberries... Whenever these exotic delicacies appear on the table, one can't help but marvel: the world is truly small! Today, with the extensive reach of maritime transport, modern dining experiences far surpass those of ancient nobility. While satisfying the taste buds of the public, this "culinary maritime corridor" has also boosted trade and economic exchanges between regions.

International trade is a key topic for major global ports. Each successful trade transaction represents more consumer goods, a broader range of choices and more stable market prices. Guangzhou Port has keenly recognized the potential of the Latin American market, developing a supply chain for fruits, frozen seafood and fishmeal from Chile, Peru and Ecuador to the west, and frozen meat from Brazil and Argentina to the east, complemented by minerals, timber and pulp from production sectors. This has helped transform the Nansha Port Area into a key hub for the distribution and allocation of fruits, frozen products, fishmeal, pulp and other commodities in South China.

Recently, Guangzhou Port has seized the opportunity presented by the upgrade of the cherry express ship model, actively seeking to secure more shipping routes and significantly increasing the number of refrigerated containers. This is expected to result in a notable rise in unloading volumes. This also means that in the near future, we may be able to enjoy this sweet gift from South America in less time and at more affordable prices.

Demand is the driving force for development. The acceleration of trade between China and Latin America has sped up regional industrial upgrades. Industries such as cold chain logistics, automotive manufacturing and home appliance manufacturing are continuously advancing to higher levels, driven by the port's trade influence. With its mature full process logistics service system, Nansha Port has become an important export hub for manufacturing industries such as toys, furniture, and home appliances in South China.

From January to October of this year, Guangzhou Port's roll-on/roll-off car exports to Latin America increased by 43.5% on a year-on-year basis, becoming a catalyst for the development of the automotive manufacturing industry. The upgrading of related industries not only improves the product quality and competitiveness of enterprises but also brings more convenient and efficient living experiences to the people of both regions.

Port trade brings vibrant vitality to society. As trade volume increases, related industries such as logistics, warehousing, processing and sales in the port hinterland will create a large number of job opportunities. This will provide local residents with employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, accelerating the development of the local economy.

In addition, this maritime corridor has become a bridge for economic, trade and cultural exchanges between China and Latin America. Since the beginning of this year, Guangzhou Port has continuously strengthened communication and cooperation with logistics companies in Latin America, actively participating in international fruit and vegetable exhibitions and other business promotions, further enhancing multi-party cooperation and consensus.

In the second half of the year, under the guidance of relevant departments in Guangzhou, the Nansha District Bureau of Commerce and other related departments, in collaboration with Guangzhou Port Group, organized the Latin American 7-Country Consular Corps Visit to Nansha event. This invited consuls general and representatives from seven Latin American countries - Panama, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, and Uruguay - to visit and exchange ideas at the Nansha Port Area. The delegation had the opportunity to tour the advanced port facilities, such as the "unmanned port" at Phase IV of Nansha and the "big freezer" in South China, and witnessed the achievements in the development of Nansha's shipping and logistics industry. This event showcased the friendship between Guangzhou and Latin American countries, allowing their bonds to flourish through communication and interaction.

The concept of "consultation, joint construction and shared benefits" guided this initiative. This "New Era Inca Road" has become a bridge connecting two ancient civilizations and deepening the friendship between two friendly nations. It will also promote the common development of Pacific Rim economies, including China and Peru, achieving mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, and bringing more tangible benefits and satisfaction to the people of all participating countries.
