Recently, the "Nansha Port - Ganzhou International Port" sea-rail intermodal cold chain train, carrying imported fruit juice from Brazil, slowly departed from Guangzhou Nansha Port South Station and is expected to reach Ganzhou International Port in just one day. This marks the first successful operation of an imported "cold chain" sea-rail intermodal train since Guangzhou Port and Ganzhou International Land Port formed a strategic partnership. This new service not only enables high-quality agricultural products from South America to reach the inland market faster, fresher, and more cost-effectively, but it also effectively extends the reach of imported cold chain cargo from coastal ports to inland regions. It further enhances the full-chain logistics service system of "ocean shipping + railway cold chain + inland distribution," strengthening the modern cold chain logistics network that connects both domestic and international markets.
The successful launch of this cold chain train provides a more efficient, stable, and economical alternative to traditional cold chain logistics models. By leveraging the advantages of large-capacity and high-stability of rail transportation, the comprehensive logistics costs for this special train have been reduced by approximately 15% compared to traditional road transport, while transportation efficiency has increased by over 30%. This has opened a reliable and fast track for high-quality foreign agricultural products to enter the inland market.
To fully ensure the quality of cold chain goods over long distances, the train uses an "8 + 1" refrigerated car configuration, which consists of one power generator car and eight special refrigerated flatcars. This setup guarantees stable power and precise temperature control throughout the journey, ensuring "uninterrupted cooling" for cold chain goods from start to finish. This effectively addresses common issues in traditional cold chain transport, such as temperature instability and high transit losses, and further strengthens the long-distance transportation system for high-value cold chain goods.
Looking ahead, Guangzhou Port is setting its sights on its development goals for the "15th Five-Year Plan." The successful launch of this cold chain train provides an important stepping stone for deeper sea-rail intermodal cooperation with China Railway Special Cargo Guangzhou Branch and Ganzhou International Land Port. The aim is to diversify cold chain cargo sources, improve the stability and convenience of cold chain logistics channels, and reduce costs. Through these efforts, Guangzhou Port strives to inject more powerful logistics momentum into the economic and trade cooperation, as well as regional coordinated development between Guangdong and Jiangxi, with higher standards and better services.(Picture & Text | Tang Zhenghao)
