Buses and Steel Billets Loaded on the Same Ship, the Innovative Mixed Loading Mode in Nansha Port Area Has Become A “New Solution for Going Overseas”

Recently, the vessel “Lidachang”, loaded with 55,000 tons of steel billets and 85 fuel-powered buses, set sail from Grain General Terminal, bound for the Port of Dammam in Saudi Arabia. This shipment innovatively utilizes a bulk carrier to transport fuel-powered vehicles via general cargo shipping, marking a breakthrough in the diversification of the automobile export business in the Nansha Port Area and contributing to the formation of an export pattern driven by both “new energy” and “conventional energy” in the port area.

Facing the technical challenges posed by the mixed loading of steel billets and passenger vehicles, Grain General Terminal, with the strong support and professional guidance of various port units, carefully assessed customer needs and actual operations, and successfully addressed issues such as passenger vehicle declaration, inspection, and transportation conditions. During on-site operations, steel billets were lifted in batches using specialized fixtures, with on-site instructors monitoring the stacking in real time to maximize the utilization of hold capacity. Passenger vehicles were lifted with vehicle bottom lifting devices and protected with custom-made sponge pads, ensuring the safety of the vehicles throughout the process. The loading was finally completed with “zero damage”, earning high praise from both the shipper and the loading supervisor. (Nie Weizhen, and Li Zhuofan)
