Recently, with a long whistle, the first “Shantou-Nansha Port" sea-rail intermodal train loaded with bathroom products departed from Shantou North Station. The successful launch of the train service marks the official opening of the “Shantou-Nansha Port” sea-rail intermodal transportation channel, directly extending the advantages of Nansha Port’s route network to Chaoshan region, and pressing the acceleration button for “Chaoshan’s goods going overseas”.
It is reported that the train service is jointly launched by Guangzhou Port Group and OOCL in collaboration with China Railway Guangzhou Group. The goods are exported to Jakarta via the Nansha Port Indonesia Express, achieving a 7-day delivery of the “factory-port-Southeast Asia" supply chain. The relevant persons in charge of the local logistics enterprises said, "Previously, the export goods in Chaoshan region could only be transported to the ports by barge and truck. The newly developed sea-rail intermodal transportation channel has reduced the entire process time by more than 30% compared to the traditional barge transfer mode. Compared to the traditional truck transportation mode, the transportation cost has been reduced by more than 15%, providing factories with an efficient and low-cost logistics path for Chaoshan’s goods going overseas”.
As the opening-up gateway in the eastern part of Guangdong, Shantou has long developed export-oriented industries such as textiles, clothing, and toy manufacturing, which are important pillars of economic development in the eastern part of Guangdong. The opening of the “Shantou-Nansha Port” sea-rail intermodal transportation channel fills the gap in sea-rail intermodal transportation between Guangzhou Port and Chaoshan area, builds a "road-railway-waterway" three-dimensional logistics system for import and export, meets the needs of direct land transportation from Guangdong’s eastern hinterland to Nansha Port Area, and promotes further integration of local characteristic industries with overseas markets.
In the next stage, Guangzhou Port will continue to promote the “hub + channel + network” strategy, relying on the efficient and convenient transportation advantages of Nansha Port Railway, deepening sea-rail intermodal transportation cooperation with Chaoshan region, building a multimodal transportation network that radiates the entire eastern part of Guangdong, advancing the coordinated development of the import and export enterprises in the eastern part of Guangdong and the sea-rail intermodal transportation of Guangzhou Port, promoting further deep integration of the industrial chain between the eastern part of Guangdong and the Greater Bay Area, and injecting new momentum into the high-quality economic development of the eastern part of Guangdong.
